There is nothing new for the people who were expecting different looks in the new IPhone.

   Gawker’s guide to Cook is handy: He joined Apple in 1998 and immediately made a mark by fixing the company’s manufacturing inefficiencies and helping the company to predict demand for its products. He begins his days at 4:30 a.m., hits the gym by 5, appears to subsist on energy bars, and is said to be “calm, quiet—and deadly.” As CEO, Cook may also be able to call himself “the most powerful gay man in America,” Gawker says. While Cook has never publicly discussed his sexuality, he was recently named the most powerful gay person in America by Out magazine—and that was before he was the official CEO.

LGBT-site Queerty says, essentially, it’s not a big deal, that everyone at Apple thinks it’s not a big deal, and that it won’t affect the company at all. The guy has done a good job as a leader while keeping his private life private, and can continue to do so. Cook, who has not publicly discussed his sexuality, was named to the top of Out’s list of powerful gays, yes, but he’s also received greater recognition in the press for the incredible dividends Apple is reaping from its supply chain strategy, led by Cook, of using Apple’s cash hoard to lock up crucial components for months or years, protecting products like the iPad from shortages, ensuring strong growth and margins for Apple and locking out would be rivals.

LGBT Nation implies, we’re all making too many assumptions. They argue, quite fairly, that if and when Cook publicly says he’s gay, he will indeed become both an icon and role model for members of the LGBT community around the world:

   If Cook — often described as the genius behind Jobs and a key to the success of Apple’s operations — is in fact gay, and comes out publicly, he would instantly become the most recognizable role model for LGBT people in the corporate world.

Jobs’ resignation letter, disclosed by Apple, implied that his health has deteriorated to the point where he can no longer run the company he co-founded in 1976.

   To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

In after hours trading Apple shares are down some 5% or $19 on the news.

So what happens to Apple now?

3. Will Tim Cook continue Jobs’ trajectory, or make the company his own?

4. What will Apple, and the future of technology, do without the things that Jobs might have dreamt up and made real?

   Apple has determined that under certain circumstances the rubber surface on some MacBooks may separate from the bottom case of the system. MacBooks shipped between October 2009 and April 2011 may experience this issue. Apple will replace the bottom case of any affected MacBook, free of charge, that exhibits the issue.

The MacBook Bottom Case Replacement Program covers the affected MacBooks for two years from original purchase date, Apple says. They will also issue a refund if you have paid for a repair or replacement due to this issue. The program does not extend your standard warranty in any way.

“One of our Apple sources has informed us that they’ve been hearing Apple’s yearly back-to-school special will be announced at WWDC next month. We have been told Apple will continue to offer educational discounts on computers and either a free iPod touch, or $229 towards the purchase of any other iPod. Our source also let us know that there might be something new in the works, as well… they heard that it’s possible Apple might offer students up to $200 off an iPad with the purchase of a new Mac.”

If small SIM adopted only by Apple devices, however, a new form factor would be an incredible setback for iPhone unlockers, since an unlocked device is useless unless multiple carriers offer a compatible SIM.

People familiar with the Apple’s retail operations have told AppleInsider that the company is currently gearing up for its yearly educational promotion. The planned meetings, combined with the 10-year milestone, have led to speculation that Apple could launch its said-to-be-completed cloud music service. Another report even claimed that Apple could introduce wireless near-field communication payments in its stores this weekend.

Back to School

Apple’s Back to School promotion allows customers to receive a free iPod touch with the purchase of a MacBook. This is expected to be a part of the retail meetings which will highlight the store layout and promotional changes in the company.

The Cupertino based company will most likely be giving out the new 4th Generation iPod touch, since they currently do not have stock of any old iPods. This will be different than in the past where Apple gave older models out for free with the purchase of a Mac.

Apple’s back-to-school promotion is a great time for college or University students to purchase their new Mac through Apple’s education channel.

Last year’s promotion was announced on Tuesday, May 25, and gave students and school faculty the ability to receive a free 8GB iPod touch with the purchase of a Mac. The offer was a relatively ho-hum affair, with a $949 starting price for the low-end MacBook that was higher than in years past. At the time, the 8GB iPod touch also carried a lower price of $199, though the new FaceTime-enabled 8GB model is now $229.

Apple love their secrets and this instance is no different.They have not yet to confirm anything officially, In celebration of their 10th retail anniversary, Apple stores are expected to hold “something big” on Thursday, at least according to BGR. May 19th is a day to mark down in your calendars.

The event is expected to be of very high importance, as the overnight shift will include personnel from the visuals staff, a manager, a business team member, a few Genius team members, one back-of-house employee, and a few generic Apple specialists. For a start, around 10 to 15 Apple Store staffers will work an overnight shift on Saturday night into Sunday morning in each store, the report claims. The staff working this shift will have their mobile phones taken from them and locked away.

Black curtains will be put on windows in Apple Stores to stop passers-by seeing what is going on, and the staff working the shift will have to sign a non-disclosure agreement with Apple.

The question is, what is Apple planning? What could May hold in store for us? A new product? New hardware?
